An Insight Into On Page Optimisation

by Tony Hill

If you are looking to make a difference to your search engine rankings, then you can make a noticeable difference with on page optimisation techniques.

On page factors are search engine optimisation techniques that can be changed and controlled by you on your own website. As well as off page techniques, on page optimisation will give you a strong standing to build upon.

There are so many different techniques being used in search engine optimisation campaigns right now but these are key points that you need to remember and continue working on. Although there is no hard and fast solution to creating the perfectly optimised page; there are a few things you can do.

The page title should preferably employ a keyword term/phrase that you're looking to target within the first word(s). This is known to have a correlation with high rankings, so it really is a good idea to include it in your copy.

Think about your URL. Generally, it is believed that shorter URLs appear to perform better in the search results and can be copied/pasted by other sites, shared and linked-to, easily.

For your body copy, you should include keywords you'd like to be visible when people are looking for you in search engines. There is a little uncertainty about how frequently you should mention the keyword copy on you website page, but generally 2-3 times in a shorter paragraph and 4-6 times on a longer one should be fine. One important factor to consider is to make sure that the words you are putting in the copy are relevant in the context of what you are saying.

In addition, you could employ one or two variations of a term or split up keyword phrases. You can use them in body copy instead of constantly repeating the same keyword over and over again.

As well as copy, images and video are becoming increasingly important when boosting your SEO rankings. Surprisingly, the alt attribute, often found on image and video descriptions appears to make a difference, so use the term/phrase in the alt attribute for an image/photo on pages you are looking to target.

In addition to those points already mentioned, your navigation needs to be easy for both search engines to follow. A simple navigation will also help users when they arrive at your site as they will be able to find what they are looking for!

If you include all of these elements, more customers should be finding your website and after all, this is the point of SEO - so they can find out more about your business and purchase products and services from you!
