Many webmasters might believe that they will be able to garner an effective Google AdWord campaign, simply because they are bidding on targeted keywords. However, as a webmaster will soon find out, not all keywords have the same price. It might be surprising for some to learn that certain keywords have certain prices placed upon them, based on how targeted they are. On short, the more targeted a keyword is, the less it will cost the webmaster for every time their generated advertisement is clicked on. On the other hand, the less targeted a keyword is, the more an ad will cost a webmaster.
In order for a webmaster to avoid higher keyword costs, this is what they should do. They need to create keyword ad groups with either square brackets or chatting marks encasing the words. When square brackets are placed around keywords, the webmaster is telling Google that they'd simply like to bid on those exact words. In this manner, the keywords in the brackets will be only targeted to those who searched for those keyword groups. If the keywords are submitted with quotation marks, then it will target exact matches and other relevant matches.
In order to pay less money for targeted keywords, the webmaster must submit the keywords in a manner that matches as closely as possible. For example, a keyword submission with the square brackets are cheaper, because they are going to produce the most relevant results. On other words, you are letting Google know that you only want to garner results based upon an exact match. Therefore, Google will reward you by charging you less money per click, based upon the relevancy of the keyword quality score.
When you use a phrase match, then you are essentially telling Google that you need a good match, but you also need other matches that Google can provide. Since Google might view this as having to create more work on their part, they will charge the webmaster more money per click. If the webmaster submits a broad match while using no brackets, then Google will charge the webmaster even more money per click.
So, if a webmaster wants to save themselves some money, then its important for them to be sure that they are only submitting keyword groups as targeted as possible. While they could submit keyword groups that require more help from Google, the webmaster should understand that they will pay more per click. Another thing that a webmaster should consider is joining a network. Many webmasters join advertising networks and this is apparent when the webmaster's advertisement seems to appear everywhere.
Many webmasters find that they simply need to conduct lots of split testing and experiments in order to find the keyword groupings that not only garner the most targeted results, but also costs them the least amount of money to bid upon.
