Today, nearly everything comes with a price. So it's great news that companies and organisations offer freebies. The continued use of corporate gifts and promotional products as marketing tools is proof that these freebies indeed effectively cultivate customer awareness and loyalty. Although corporate gifts are at times called premiums, they are nevertheless very cost-effective, high-impact tools made available even to businesses with constraints in their marketing and advertising budget.
Whilst there are other advertising media and tools, why do businesses and organizations continue to use promotional merchandise?
Studies have shown that compared to television, print and online advertising tools, promotional products produced exceptional results in terms of recall and reaction. More than 80 percent of consumers in studies like to receive freebies, and nearly 50 percent like to receive such gifts more often. Of those respondents, more than 20 percent made a purchase after receiving the promotional items.
The findings are not quite bad considering that only more than 13 percent made a purchase after viewing a print advert, more than 7 percent made a purchase after viewing a television advert, and barely 5 percent made a purchase after viewing an online advert. As far as recall is concerned, more than 90 percent of respondents were able to recall the promotional products they received in the past 2 years.
What is the underlying reason for such high recall and positive reaction of customers towards corporate promotional gifts?
When you inspect the qualities of corporate gifts, it's easy to understand why customers remember them even after two years have passed. For one, the items are notably common yet useful things. Think about pens, mugs, caps, shirts, bags, and what-not - these are all basic things that people use every day. Throughout the time these freebies are used, people are reminded about them - who gave them away and what they represent.
Promotional products are some of the few things that people actually get for free. Because of that, recipients naturally establish some sort of fondness or liking towards the company or brand that the freebies represent. Marketers can then work that out to transform this liking into loyalty - from favourable perception to repeat purchase. This isn't that difficult to accomplish especially when the products are really of great value.
There is no other advertising media that can closely tie a benefit to the recipient as freebies can. Furthermore, the cost per impression or CPM of these marketing tools is a few pennies cheaper than other media, including national magazine, newspaper, prime-time television advert, and spot radio. The benefits of corporate promotional items far outweigh the cost. So do promotional products work? The answer is crystal clear.
