How to Create an Account in Gmail
There are 101 reasons why you should open an account in Gmail. First Google implements the “one account for all services” policy. This means if you already have an e-mail account, you don’t have to create a new one to sign in to Blogger, Adsense, and Buzz, to name a few. Second, this is probably the only e-mail account that is practically loaded with dozens of productivity apps. It syncs in your documents and spreadsheets, allows your calendar to appear in your inbox, and lets you create a task list. You can organize your e-mails so the more important ones appear first and spell-check your e-mails before sending them. You can even undo send just in case you’ve sent the wrong one as well as insert images and attachments in a jiffy.
Gmail has also made it so easy for you to open an account:
- Go to gmail website.
- Press Create an Account. This leads you to the sign-up page. Note that in the address bar it says https://. This is especially important since you want to register in a secure page. This is how you protect yourself from hackers and phishers in the Internet.
- Fill out your personal information, beginning with your name.
- Select your desired login name or username. You can press Check Availability to know if your username has already been taken. Don’t worry, Gmail does come up with suggestions too if you’re running out of them.
- Select a password. You can come up with at least 8 alphanumeric characters for your password, and though Gmail doesn’t intervene with your preferred password, it has a password strength meter to help you know if it’s weak or not. You want to create a very strong password so it’s not easy for anyone to open and access your account.
- You can select or deselect Stay Signed In or Enable Web History. The latter simply customizes your Gmail experience by providing you with searches and websites that you’ll most likely be interested in. The information is derived from your previous searches.
- Choose a security question. The security question allows you to recover your password. You can choose among the pre-made ones or come up with your own.
- Come up with an answer. Make sure that the answer is familiar, or you may have a hard time retrieving your password.
- Write your recovery e-mail. The recovery e-mail can be used to authenticate your registered Gmail address as well as recover passwords. If you don’t have one, though, you can simply leave it blank.
- Determine your location. Gmail is accessible to almost all countries all over the world you should be able to find yours in the list.
- Indicate your birthday.
- Repeat the words for verification. If they are unclear to you, click on the Disabled icon to generate a new one.
- Read the terms and conditions. If they sound fair or agreeable, choose I accept. Create my account.
Gmail will alert you if there is something wrong with how you fill out the form or the information you provided. If everything is a go, you’re immediately redirected to your newly created account.
