Do you need more hard disk space to store further data? If you happen to run out of space to add on HDD to your computer tower, you better get another type of hard drive. My external hard drive will be much better at least it is portable; you can simply carry it anywhere without having to disassemble your tower and place it in. It is more of plug and play type. It’s cool right?

What is an external hard drive?

It is a type of hard drive that is used externally without having to put inside a computer tower for it to work. It is place inside a case (enclosure) that stores the hardware. The case or enclosure is slightly bigger than the actual external hard drive. There are other external hard drives that contain cooling fan.

How to use my external hard drive?

An external hard drive is connected to a computer tower with the use of an interface cable (high speed). What the interface does is that it communicates to the computer itself for data to be passed on from the internal hard drive to the external one and vice-versa. The usual interfaces used to connect external hard drive right to the tower are Firewire and USB.

What makes external hard drive important?

First, it serves as a good device to store huge data as backup in case files or the data within the tower got corrupted or difficult to be retrieved.

Second, it is secured. The good thing with external hard drive is that you can store data securely without having to think of having hackers getting inside your system and hacked all the data stored. Just plug it off from the tower if you are not using it anymore or when you are online.

Third, it’s portable. You can carry it around wherever you go. You do not need to carry around a computer tower with you. Just the external hard drive and you are good to go. This is great especially when your work involves with huge data and information.

Fourth, it makes segregation of data easy. If you want to be more organized, you can have one my external hard drive for multimedia, another one for backup, then one for imaging, and many others. Now, you will not be messing around with loads of file inside your personal computer.
